Three Vermont Governors Trust Rodgers to Represent Vermonters’ Interests

Douglas, Shumlin, and Scott issue statements supporting John Rodgers in lieutenant governor’s race

In a time of great division in our state and nation, one man is uniting partisan interests.  That man is John Rodgers, candidate for lieutenant governor.

Former governors, Governors Douglas and Shumlin, and current governor, Governor Scott, all trust John Rodgers as Vermont’s next lieutenant governor.  All three governors, despite differing party affiliations, enjoy reputations for fiscal responsibility and accountability and a willingness to make tough decisions even when it meant disappointing special interests.  These same qualities are desperately needed in a statewide leader right now, and the governors are emphatic when speaking to Rodgers integrity.

Governor Jim Douglas declares, “Having spent a few years of my life around Montpelier, it's fair to say, I appreciate the value of bipartisan governance. John was always one of those elected officials I could count on to speak his mind, fiercely if necessary, in defense of his constituents and independent of party mandates. He always did so sincerely, thoughtfully, and in the collaborative spirit of finding the best solution for all Vermonters. I respected him then and respect him even more now. Please join me in voting for John Rodgers for lieutenant governor.”

Governor Shumlin gets right to the point, when he states,  "I have worked with John Rodgers for many years. I trust John and I know that he has the best interests of Vermonters at heart."

Governor Scott emphasizes the point further, "I’ve known John for years and worked with him while he was in the House and the Senate, and I’ve seen firsthand how committed he is to Vermont. John knows what hard work is all about. He also knows that the solutions to our problems do not come from the extremes of either party — but somewhere in the middle. We need more voices like John’s in Montpelier to bring more balance and common sense to lawmaking. He would make a strong partner."

John Rodgers, in response to this unprecedented support for a candidate from a current and past group of bipartisan governors, said, “I am honored to have earned the respect and trust of these governors, men known for their commitment to ensure that Vermonters can actually afford to live in Vermont.  I am eager to work  with Governor Scott  on behalf of Vermonters to contain the costs of living and to bring property taxes within reach of working and retired Vermonters. I ask for your vote on November 5th for a Vermont in which we can all feel secure and proud.”

Rodgers is challenging David Zuckerman, a well-known Progressive and an incumbent  with an extreme record of backing policies that have resulted in the precarious economic situation Vermonters and Vermont businesses now find themselves: crushing property taxes, spiraling home heating costs and electricity rates, reckless rents, and increasingly out-of-reach health insurance premiums.
